Ecological Architecture Design (Task5)

Atkin's Architecture Group is to build Songjiang Beuty Spot Hotel in Shanghai in 2015.
This is to be an eco hotel, with a park on the roof, geothermal energy source*, etc.
One of the key social responcibilities of the group are respect for the environment.
Atkin's Architecture are committed to conducting business in an environmentally responsible manner.
In addition to reducing carbon, group's key environmental priorities have been identified as:
  • Waste reduction
  • Water efficiency
  • Ecology and biodiversity
(http://www.atkinsglobal.com/corporate-responsibility)
The park on the roof will exceed 3500 m2. The hotel will be able to host 400 people, a conference hall for 1000 people, a number of restaurants, cafes and a leisure centre.
With geothermal energy the hotel will fully supply itself with electricity and heating.

*Geothermal energy is thermal energy generated and stored in the Earth. Thermal energy is the energy that determines the temperature of matter. The Geothermal energy of the Earth's crust originates from the original formation of the planet (20%) and from radioactive decay of minerals (80%). The geothermal gradient, which is the difference in temperature between the core of the planet and its surface, drives a continuous conduction of thermal energy in the form of heat from the core to the surface.
